Mr Lee is a fourth generation Australian of Chinese descent. His great grandparents worked in the Victorian goldfields. Born in Darwin, he is a retired pharmacist who now spends his time writing his memoirs. (Ed: Wellington, when will we see the book?)
During the Second World War, Mr Lee was an officer in the RAAF and is still on the Active Reserve of Officers. He has been a prominent member of the RSL and is currently on the State Executive of the Victorian RSL. In addition he was active in Lions International and Freemasonry, and has sat on or headed many community, cultural and ethnic organisations, including Chairmanship of the Ethnic Community Council of Victoria; Asian-Australian Consultative Council; the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Victoria and Foundation Chairman of the FCA.
Mr Lee became a JP in 1963 and was awarded the OBE in 1982. He was elected to the Melbourne City Council in 1977, 1980 and 1985 and had served as Deputy Lord Mayor.
