Born in Singapore, Mr Gay came to Australia in 1952. He graduated M Sc at the University of Melbourne. Recently retired, he was a lecturer in the Department of Pharmacology at the University.
Mr Gay was Secretary of CPBA from 1974 for two years before becoming President. He initiated the formation of the Federation of Chinese Associations (FCA), the current umbrella group for all Chinese associations in Victoria, and became its Foundation Treasurer in 1979. He led a group of CPBA members on a fact-finding/ cultural mission to China in 1977 the first such Chinese group from Australia. He has also been involved in many other CPBA and other community activities.
A member of the Australian Society for Clinical and Experimental Pharmacologists and Toxicologists, the Australian Physiological and Pharmacological Society and the British Pharmacological Society, Mr Gay spent six months in 1984 holding workshops and seminars on teaching methods in Heibei Province in China.
